With a rapidly growing campus population,
Sosola Primary School faced severe shortages in secure, hygienic latrines. This
lack of facilities threatened public health and directly caused girls to miss
school during their menstrual cycles due to a complete lack of privacy. To
address this, with the support from World Connect Malawi and Stichting Kook, an initiative successfully constructed 13 modern, durable
latrines and one specialized privacy space to serve the entire school
population of 978 pupils and 36 teachers.: Four dedicated modern toilets to
provide staff with hygienic and secure facilities on site, Four newly
engineered toilets designed for cleanliness and easy maintenance, Four durable,
ventilated toilets built to handle heavy daily student use and one specialized,
secure changing room explicitly built to allow girls to manage their menstrual
hygiene with absolute dignity, effectively reducing monthly school absenteeism.
This project has permanently improved hygiene standards at Sosola Primary
School. The new facilities minimize the spread of waterborne illnesses, keep
girls in school, and provide a safe, respectful environment where both teachers
and learners can focus on education.
