Restoring Hope: Roof Renovation Brings Sosola Students Back to the classroom

In December 2020, disaster struck Sosola Primary School. Severe storms, heavy rains, and destructive winds ripped the roofs off two major classroom blocks. The structural damage created an immediate educational crisis. With no alternative indoor facilities available, 120 learners were forced to learn outdoors under a tree exposing the children to harsh weather conditions. To resolve this crisis, the Friends of Malawi funded a comprehensive one-year emergency rehabilitation project throughout 2021. The project focused on rebuilding resilient infrastructure to withstand future climate shocks. Team members completely replaced the damaged roof trusses, secured high-grade iron sheeting, and reinforced the structural integrity of both classroom blocks. Due to this vital intervention, 120 children returned to safe, dry, and permanent learning environments, ensuring uninterrupted education for the community.
