Academic
success depends on both motivated teachers and a safe, hygienic learning
environment for students. Before this intervention, Sosola Primary School faced
major challenges, including two dilapidated teacher houses that had been
uninhabitable for over three years and inadequate sanitation facilities that
affected student well-being, particularly girls' attendance. With support from
World Connect Malawi in 2021, the school rehabilitated the teacher houses by
repairing structures, replacing roofs, doors and windows, and improving overall
living conditions to encourage teachers to reside on campus. The project also
constructed five modern toilets and a dedicated girls’ changing room, improving
hygiene, supporting menstrual health management, and creating a more inclusive
and conducive learning environment.
